In numerous countries, including India, banks are closed on May 1 in observance of Labour Day or International Workers’ Day. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks in Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Panaji, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Imphal, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Belapur will be closed for Maharashtra Day/May Day (Labour Day).

Labour Day is celebrated in India with various names across different states. In Hindi, it is referred to as Kamgar Din; in Kannada, it is known as Karmikara Dinacharane; in Telugu, it is celebrated as Karmika Dinotsavam; in Marathi, it is called Kamgar Divas; in Tamil, it is known as Uzhaipalar Dhinam; in Malayalam, it is recognized as Thozhilaali Dinam, and in Bengali, it is famously referred to as Shromik Dibosh.
