The government recently approved expanding the PM Ujjwala Yojana scheme to target an additional 7.5 million women. Shortly after, the government moved to provide additional subsidies, with a focus on rural women. This extension is a component of a larger initiative to bring the total number of beneficiaries up to 103.5 million over the following three years.

In anticipation of Raksha Bandhan, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday, August 29, lowered the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder by ₹200 as a gift for the ladies. The decision was made in response to growing criticism of the Center regarding rising inflation.
