Stock market news: Sensex up 148 points to 71,971, Nifty at 21,884

Stock market news: The BSE Sensex surged by 148.28 points, with the Nifty climbing 44 points.

Following encouraging cues from Asian and international markets, the Sensex and Nifty both rose in early trade on Thursday, marking a healthy start to the markets. The wider Nifty increased 36.90 points, or 0.17 percent, to 21,876.95 points, while the 30-share benchmark Sensex gained 115.89 points, or 0.16 percent, to reach 71,938.72 points.

Stock market news: Reliance Industries and Maruti Suzuki were trading slightly down in the Sensex pack, while Mahindra and Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Steel, Wipro, and Infosys were among the gainers.

Deepak Jasani, the Head of Retail Research at HDFC Securities, noted that equities in Asia kicked off Thursday on a positive note, taking cues from a surge in Wall Street spurred by strong earnings reports. This rally helped ease worries about ongoing inflation concerns. Although there was some initial weakness, all three major US stock indexes ended higher on Wednesday as investors reevaluated the implications of the previous session’s US inflation data.

Stock market news: Wednesday saw a notable turnaround in the domestic equity market as it rebounded from early losses to finish in positive territory. The Sensex recorded a gain of 267.64 points, representing a 0.37 percent increase, settling at 71,822.83 points by the end of the trading session. Similarly, the Nifty surged by 96.80 points, or 0.45 percent, closing the day at 21,840.05 points.

According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers on Wednesday, disposing of shares valued at Rs 3,929.60 crore.
